RNLI 10K 2018 Results

On Sunday morning 7th October despite a chilly weather forecast it was not too bad with a bit of a north-easterly wind to expect on the return leg. I made it 17 Baffineers in the 10k all told. (I looked at all registered as BFC and others I know are dual-registered and those who did not put us down but are members). Firstly the 10k, and as many know now, exactly 7 years since my 1st race (time 48:48) since school! The race is from the RNLI building at Eastney almost up to where the Hayling Ferry departs, around Southsea Castle by the bandstand and back.
After a group BFC photo(s) all runners lined up whether they were running 10k or 8 miles.

We quickly spread out and I knew I was going pretty well, nip and tuck with a yellow-vested lady from Sandhurst Runners. After the turnaround she gradually drew about a minute away and I was marooned with no-one behind me in sight either. Luckily David Brawn of The News (maybe that's how I got my photo in!) caught up with me and overtook and gave me a bit of a target but I wasn't able to quite keep up with him. I was very pleased to be 2nd male 50-59 at the grand old age of 59 in a sea of Green Army triumphs! Colin Southwell won his new age group, Julie Allan Fuller won hers and was 4th lady. Helen Mayhead was 9th overall and 4th in her age, Denise Courtney 6th in her age group after a bout of flu'.
There were some PBs, not all I am sure are noted here, but some highlights were Gary Cook smashing his after 16 years of running and only 2 weeks after beating his 5k best. Matthew Hedley getting a 2nd PB in as many weeks in a 10k, Jack Jenkinson obliterating last year's time, a very respecable debut for Ash Mayhead, and Liam Bradshaw. One of my favourite races, not just for personal reasons, was enhanced by cheering others on after I had received my medal and Pringles!? There were some awesome supporters too along the route. This report will be added to the race reports on our website soon.
