BFC Race Reports

1st Lakeside 5k series race 2019

by Brett Rumfitt

Good morning Baffineers. Here is a short write-up on the first Lakeside 5k race of the year. These are organised by City of Portsmouth AC and take place- no surprise- at Lakeside! It is basically 2 laps round the lake and through a path by the car park so a little different to the parkrun there. They can be entered online or on the night, all together or individually and you keep the same number all summer.
After over 110 races it STILL has not rained during an event I have been in, and despite a few spots of rain in the warm-up it had stopped by the start at 7:15.
The Baffins results were:9th Dan Slayford a PB of 16:45 running for Portsmouth Uni. Dan had also run his 2nd fastest parkrun at Southend-on Sea the previous Saturday which I had missed off parkrun report.52nd Sonny Locke 19:50 a great run 25th senior male 55th me 19:57 3rd sub 20 in a row and 2nd in M55 age.85th Hattie Locke 22:44 3rd un U15 girls 88th Phoebe Carlile (Nicola Carlile Chinnery) 23:00 a PB here and 2nd in U17 girls The youngsters were running in their City of Portsmouth AC vests 104th Barbara Hathaway 24:52 a PB 2nd in W45 age group
On Run Britain, 5k PBs are shown separately to parkrun PBs.Some great times here in a very strong field. Also many high finishes in the age-groups.Many top local runners compete here individually for prizes and for their clubs. There were 130 runners so to show the standard, virtually everyone was sub 30:00!
To win a prize you have to compete in a minimum of 3 of the 5 summer races. There are age-group prizes too. They are USUALLY the last Wednesday of the month but check as a couple are a week early.
