BFC Race Reports

Hayling 10 Mile 2019 3rd November 2019

by Brett Rumfitt

Organised very well, as usual by Havant AC. Again perfect conditions just 2 weeks after the premier 10 mile race in Europe (the GSR) we had another race locally over the same distance. Last year we had 20 BFC, but this year, a combination of reasons meant we had just 4 intrepid runners. Injuries, nearness to other races and Marathon training are the main reasons but also the event is now back on the Hampshire Road Race League calendar so all the main local clubs enter for points. This means it sells out quickly. There were huge contingents from all the local clubs and as far away as Salisbury etc.

The race starts near to the bottom of the Billy Line and indeed after a couple of miles takes in part of this disused railway trail. We then go west to the Ferryboat Inn and then a long eastward stretch to Eastoke before doubling back and then turning several 90 degree turns into the Community Centre park. Like the Gosport Half, there are 4 possible places where you might cross other runners on the opposite side and be able to shout out to teammates.

Our 4 finishers were

Pos    Gender Pos    Name                Chip Time   Cat Pos

152    132                 Brett Rumfitt      1:13:04        4th   VM60

317     242                Paul Norris        1:25:31        90th VM40

410     284                Martin Coumbe 1:33:01        36th VM35

411     285                Alex Millham      1:33:01      104th VM40

Full results are below. There are some familiar local speedies there such as James Baker of Chi and Julian Manning of Denmead. Emma Jolley  was 3rd lady, 35th overall in 1:02:45 and 1st in the V35 category. As we collected our medals at the end we also received our now legendary pair of socks! Try this one next year if you like, I will post on facebook when it opens as it can sell out in a few days!
