parkrun review 29th January 2022

A total of 163 runners took part at Great Salterns parkrun event #2

Nearly everyone who had run the 1st event ran a PB as the course had dried out over the previous week and they familiarised themselves with the course. Our PBs were Jason Smith 11 secs, Paul Daniel Norris 42 secs, Terrie Ann Brown 32:27 (previous week was tail walker), Alison Newman 38 secs and myself 54 secs. A few less runners came along than I expected but it will vary I'm sure. Mick at the Cricket Club has now started teas and coffees at £1.

We were 1st, 7th and 8th and 11th in the Age-Graded times, myself, John Bucketsofrain , Dave Rees-Whelan and Richard Jones respectively. Helen Newman 's brother was 1st male after 3rd last week and Rebecca Niles 4th female, Caitlin Burchett 7th and Helen Newman herself 9th. Some great runs by our members. The new event seems to have gone down well with local and visitor runners.

Julie Allan Fuller, Ashleigh Berryman, Bill Mayhead, Billy Jules Bilton, myself, Jason Smith, Colin Southwell were amongst the volunteers who also included Katie Carew-Robinson and many of her Goodgym Portsmouth colleagues. Ian Gregory and Louise Griffin were Run Directors. Kev Budd as Event Director was there and took over the timing as we had a late vacancy.

Please remember to volunteer when you are racing the following day or injured or just feel like it. Quite a few roles can be done without them stopping you running too. In recent weeks Lakeside, Southsea and QE have put out late pleas for help and it is always welcome. It would be a pity if a parkrun was cancelled due to lack of help. There are stats showing the percentage of volunteer roles to runs for individuals and some of the speedy local runners have not ever helped!!!

Ian Briscoe ran this which is one circular run on gravel forest tracks. He now is our fastest of 4 runners her. He then went onto run the Maverick race afterwards!

Kevin Aylward is out 1st runner here. The course is at Hereford Leisure Centre near Hereford Racecourse. The course is run entirely on trail paths. Looks like a good time Kevin Aylward
