parkrun review for 21st May 2022

by Brett Rumfitt

A (strangely small) total of 58 runners took part at Great Salterns parkrun event #18

Some great runs here including top 10s for James (debut and All parkrun PB)) Karen Millham, Richard Walker (All parkrun PB) and Katie Beasley (was Rowsell)

PBs were from Katie Beasley 0:47, Keith Caunt 0:43, and tailwalker Janice Wellstead 3:49. Dave Rees-Whelan and John Bucketsofrain weren't far off their quickest on the course.

Other debuts were Michael Beasley and Alex Marathon Millham.

In the age-graded times, John Bucketsofrain was 2nd, Dave Rees-Whelan 6th and Richard Walker 8th.

A total of 177 runners took part at Victoria Dock parkrun event #130 in London. A 'V' was collected by Martyn Threader, Pam Threader and Andy on their quest for the alphabet. This is the course opposite the o2 where I ran a few weeks ago on tarmac, paving and some cobbles with atleast 13x 90 degree turns.

A total of 115 runners took part at the splendidly named Parke parkrun event #342. Should you be interested, here are the course details on a National Trust property.

The course is in Parke Estate, near Bovey Tracey. The course is run on a mixture of trail paths, tarmac path and gravel cycle path .The start and finish area is on the private drive to Parke House. After 90m head off right down the stoney path past the meadow, at the gate head straight across the crossroads and after passing the big wooden shed turn left up the steep hill. Stay on this path until for about one kilometre and turn sharp right near the gate at the far end of the Parke property, follow the lower valley path for one kilometre back towards the cross roads. When you get back to the crossroads turn left which will take you over two bridges over the old mill stream and River Bovey.

On the other side of the second bridge continue straight ahead and take the path up onto the old railway line (Wray Valley Trail). Turn left along the trail for about 500m before taking a right up the hill into the trees. At the top of the hill turn right and follow the path all the way round dropping back onto the old railway before turning left and following it for 200m before turning right back over the bridges to the crossroads. Turn left through the gate and back up the stoney path finish line.
