parkrun review 11th June 2022

A total of 1107 runners took part at Bushy (the home of parkrun) parkrun event #880

A huge number as usual and a first timer for Andy and a PB by 38 secs for Neil Priddle. The winner was the 23rd fastest ever here in 880 runs.

A total of 105 runners took part at Great Salterns parkrun event #21

Highlights here were top 10 finishes for Kevin Rowsell (with a 19 sec PB) and John Bucketsofrain, Jo Wilkins (only 3 secs outside her PB) and Helen Hunt.

Chris Mathews ran a 2:07 PB and Liam John Bradshaw a 1sec PB (they all count!) Nikki Wright improved her best by 38 secs. There were also PBs for Alex Yorke a big improvement of 2:28, Alison Newman 0:17 and Nickie Luxford 0:07. Tina Mathews and Reuben Hanson made their debuts.

In the Age-Graded percentages, John Bucketsofrain, Kevin Rowsell and Helen Hunt were 1st, 6th and 8th respectively.

My 2nd new parkrun in London in succession and a hot 3 lap course near the tube station, although the start is a 10 minute walk away. I was our 2nd runner here after Hayley Irvine. As usual I got chatting to other runners including a couple from north Glasgow who recommended Springburn.

The route consists of almost two complete anti-clockwise laps. It starts on the road around Finsbury Park near the cafe just past the black gates. The route follows the road around the park before taking the path on the left (heading uphill) just opposite the bridge over the canal and just after the black gates on the road. At the top of the hill the route meets the road but veers straight around the boating lake, past the Athletics track, before heading through the gardens past McKenzie Pavilion and the playground and back to the start. On the second lap after rounding the lake and going through the gardens, the finish is on a first track next to McKenzie Pavilion.

An excellent 8th place for Caitlin Burchett and Michael Rae had the 4th best Age-Grade. Katherine Newell was again one of the volunteers, her 400th actual volunteering parkrun!

Don't forget there is NO Southsea parkrun on 25th June so we will have a larger amount of runners at Great Salterns. We have volunteers but any help on the day will be appreciated such as extra scanners after you have finished running.

A couple of websites you may be interested in are the Run Britain Rankings and Run ABC South.

Run Britain https://www.runbritainrankings... is where you sign up for free and they will grade every UKA race and parkrun to give you a handicap and it is based on an algorithm including race difficulty and how fast others run it. It is useful to see how your progress is going. Quite a few BFC are on it. Let me know if you want any more info.

Run ABC is a good one to search for local races.https://runabc.co.uk/
