parkrun Review for Saturday 7th January 2023

Hi everyone, here is my parkrun review for 7th January 2023. These will be only once a week now the Christmas period is over!

We begin at Southsea where a total of 219 runners took part.

Michael Rae was 4th in the Age-Graded Percentages and Fiona Shaw an impressive 6th and was 8th female finisher.

A total of 891 runners took part at Clapham Common parkrun event #158. Jason Smith is our 3rd runner here and he said it was very congested at the start. I ran here in event 13 with half the number. The course is run on a mixture of trail, footpaths and grass.A flat, circular, 2-lap clockwise course around the perimeter of Clapham Common. Start and finish located close to the double football pitches by Broomwood Road. Unfortunately this event is unsuitable for buggies. Nearest tubes are Clapham South and Clapham Common.

A total of 217 runners took part at Bicester parkrun event #270 The course is at Langford Fields, Langford Village, Bicester. The course is run on a mixture of grass , tarmac paths and hoggin paths. The Summer route course is a two-lap, clockwise loop around the parkland between Langford Village and central Bicester. Starting and finishing by the middle bridge in the centre of the park with not a hill in sight.

Over the Winter we use an alternative course which consists of a two-lap course utilising the tarmac paths to avoid all grassed (muddy) areas. It is envisaged it will remain in place between approximately November to March, however the meeting point for the start is exactly the same.

The postcode for the start is OX26 6SX.

Fiona Cfb ran a PB here, 1 second but they all count!

A total of 69 runners took part at a soggy Great Salterns parkrun event #53

Gordon Scruton and Alex Gannon were 3rd and 4th male finishers. We had no female runners this week and not surprisingly no PBs or anyone near. Gordon also had 8th best Age-Graded Percentage.

Local legend Bob Pentland ran here again so that's twice in the last few weeks. If Bob likes the course it must be good.

Why not get involved and volunteer? It's very rewarding and there are tasks that can be done enabling you to run too. Just go to the Great Salterns or whatever parkrun you are attending and email them. For 14th January at the time of writing, we still could do with a token sorter at the end and a barcode scanner. Both of these can be done after running if needed. Another marshal would be good too.
