BFC Members parkrun review for 21st January 2023

We will begin with the 1ST ANNIVERSARY of Great Salterns parkrun total of 111 runners took part, including a fantastic 31 Baffins Fit Club runners. Thanks to the hard work behind the scene sof everyone involved in setting this event up. Some will know that it was ready to go in March 2020 just before lockdown, but had to wait until January 2022 as we had to go through all the processes and permissions again! In fact the 1st trial run was 28th September 2019!!

Many attended the 1st birthday and also some as it was part of the Fibonacci sequence. This is where each number is the sum of the 2 preceding ones. So 1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34,55 etc.

Having been part of the course set up on the day, the consensus was that it was safer than the mudbath the previous week. Kev Budd was breaking up the ice puddles with a garden fork and we put cones and discs to indicate the better routes around the trickier places.

There were 2 top 10 finishes, for James (Alex Marathon) Milham in a 1 sec PB and Richard Walker.

There was also a 23 sec PB for Nickie Luxford.

Christine Mc was 1st female in a new PB by 38 secs and is now our fastest female on this course (taking over from Jo Wilkins )and Louise Griffin (in her 4th best time here) and Becci Knowles also made the top 10 females. Richard Walker, Louise Griffin, Robert Marsh and Ryan Richards were near their best times on the course.

In the Age-Graded Percentages which take age and gender into account, I was 4th, John Bucketsofrain 6th, Richard Walker 8th and James Milham 10th.

BFC have had 107 different runners here in 1 year with 923 total runs. In the year, the most runs here are by John Bucketsofrain, Alex Gannon, Kevin Aylward, Ruth Collins (amazing as she has had a broken leg in November to stop her) , Robert Marsh and myself.

Thanks to the volunteers, many of whom were from Goodgym Portsmouth including Katie Carew Robinson. They do good deeds including litter picks, painting and generally helping out. Check them on facebook or the web to see more.

This was Billy Jules Bilton volunteering for the 100th time and also his 250th parkrun. Billy will be back at Great Salterns occasionally from his new home in his native hartlepool.

A much larger than recently total of 463 runners took part at Southsea parkrun event #417, due to the weather improving and little wind!

Michael Rae was 6th in the Age-Graded Percentages and Fiona Shaw 13th.

Nicola Carlile Chinnery ran her 2nd PB in succession but this time by a massive 40 secs.
