BFC Members parkrun review for 8th April 2023

A total of 65 runners took part at Great Salterns parkrun event #66

James Millham (Alex Marathon) was 5th male and near his best time here, Nikki Wright was 9th female and Julie Allan Fuller 8th.

Jen Little ran a 30 sec PB in only her 4th run since her comeback from injury.

John Bucketsofrain had the 5th highest Age Grade.

We had the whole Millham clan there today, even Karen supporting.

Course Description

A single lap event on the promenade. Congregate on the grass event area behind the leisure centre. The run starts and finishes at the distance marker lamp post on the prom, beside the leisure centre. The run heads SW, turning around at the bench in front of the Martello tower, approx. 1.2km from the start. The run now continues past the start, heading NE for approx. 1.3km, turning around at the Seafront shelter before returning to the finish.

A total of 441 runners took part at Newbury parkrun event #508

James Yorke and Alex Yorke celebrated their wedding anniversary by debuting at Newbury parkrun which is a single lap course fully marked all the way round. The start is located at the centre of Greenham common on the old runway tarmac, approximately 600m South West of the control tower. Runners will head North for 300m, before turning right onto the hardpack gravelled path until the 1km mark, when they will take a left turn off the main path and through the trees. As you come out of the trees you follow the path to the left, around the pond areas to the half way point just before passing the Athletics Track. Once past the track you will take a right continuing on the main path away from an entrance to the common, please stay on the main path and do not cut this corner. You continue on this path, staying left at the next junction, then continuing to follow the path over a slight rise, passing 4km at the bottom of the second rise. With 30 metres to go you will take a right turn back onto the runway and through the finish funnel.

I'm sure James was just as interested in the military history of the area! He is now our fastest of 4 runners here.

A total of 495 runners took part at Fountains Abbey parkrun event #385

Course Description

Sheltered in a secluded valley only around 3 miles south west of Ripon lies Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal Water Garden; a World Heritage site and one of the most historic and beautiful places in Europe. Starting from Huby’s Tower at the Abbey, this is a 2 lap gently undulating, clockwise course run entirely on National Trust land on firm footpaths, designed to ensure no runner will be lapped. The route is marked with high vis signs. All runners should wear road shoes in all weathers; there are no muddy sections.

The first shorter lap heads past the East Lawn, around the Rustic Bridge & Half Moon pond, following the River Skell back past the Abbey, the West Lawn and Abbey tea rooms.

The second lap passes the Abbey heading left of the Rustic Bridge around the stunning Studley Royal Water Garden crossing the narrow wooden footbridge in front of the Lake and following a stunning course back towards the finish line at Robin Hood’s Well, in sight of the Abbey.

Helen Mayhead, Ash and Phoebe tailwalked (and sorted nearly 500 tokens!) at this picturesque course whilst visting relatives.
