Brett's BFC Members parkrun review for 29th April 2023

by Brett Rumfitt

We begin at the local run for many of our members where a total of 59 runners took part at a drying Great Salterns parkrun event #69
There were some impressive PBs for Geoff Newman 8 secs, Robert Marsh 41 secs and Iza Pstrucha 32 secs. Ian Briscoe, Neil Griffiths, Julie Allan and Kim Stroud were near their best times on the course, while Julie was 1st Female. Kim was 3rd female and Iza 7th. Ian Briscoe was 4th (highest ever position), Alex Gannon was 7th male finisher with Squid the dog. Janet Sampson walked but had a 1:08 PB nonetheless.

In the Age-Graded Percentages, John Burchett was 1st with 74.19% and Julie 6th 69.62%. 70% is the equivalent of Regional Class. More of this later.

Thanks to the volunteers
We are very grateful to the volunteers who made this event happen: Ashleigh BERRYMAN, Liam BRADSHAW, Ian BRISCOE, Pete COLWELL, Kate ENGLISH, Louise GRIFFIN, Paul GRIFFIN, Sam HURST, Lynne JOLLEY, Nick LAY, Luke LININGTON, Jen LITTLE, Craig LUNN, Edward MORRIS, Janet SAMPSON, Clive TUCKER, Janice WELLSTEAD

Why not get involved and volunteer? Contact the team via email greatsalterns@parkrun.com  We are still a little short of help for Coronation Day, 6th April. Please wear Red, White and Blue if you wish or anything Royally connected. Just not 4 blokes inside a giant crown like the one blocking the route at the London Marathon's narroweer parts last week! We could do with another timer, some marshals and another barcode scanner (can be done if queues once you have run) and token sorting (again, once the event is finished). We normally go to Costa at Ocean Park after for a natter too. All welcome.

A total of 473 runners took part at Southsea parkrun event #431
This is the other run for the a lot our runners. It was not windy for a change.   It was Laura Richardson's 50th birthday and she and sister Carrie Haunstrup were both near their PBs. Kam Fan ran his best time since October 2022, Neil Dyer 2 secs slower than last week's best since July 2018 time. I ran my fastest since the pre-lockdown run 14/3/2020 and 2nd best for 42 months (as I've already told most of you at least once, only 6 days after my London Marathon)

In the Age-Graded Percentages, Fiona Shaw was 6th with 79.01% and I got my highest percentage ever 80.13%, supposedly National Class!

Robert Turner Diamond after his Virtual London Marathon run from midnight on Sunday, ran his best since July 2022. Not sure if Natasha Jackson is still a member but running well. If not you'd be welcome back. Jade Southam ran her 1st parkrun for 5 months, Chris Mathews for 8 months. Welcome back both of you.

Despite the local football team winning, they were relegated out of the League (4th Tier) but their was some cheer for Billy in that it was his fastest parkrun since January 2020 and his 2nd best here.

Jason is our 1st runner here on the Devon coast. Just over two laps of the seafront. Just over two laps of the seafront. Starting on the pebble beach east of Fisherman's Gap, the route goes in a westerly direction using the Esplanade to the Hideaway cafe where it turns and returns beyond the start with a short spell of pebble beach before turning to repeat for a second lap. After two laps of the Esplanade, parkrunners drop onto the beach on the slipway adjacent to Jane's kiosk for a short pebble beach finish. A good time after his recent ankle problems (ankles seem to be the most common injury/problem at the moment!)

100% on grass; the course starts with a 2 lap circumnavigation of the playing field before continuing straight along past a school and houses until the marshal point at Bell Lane is reached; loop back on yourself and continue with the hedgerow on your right to Millennium Field where a short loop into Dobbs Woods will be completed. You will then come back on to field to finish in front of the pavilion. This is a fast and flat course.

This has two laps, each an out and back loop on an old railway line - the scenic Mawddach Trail. No dogs unfortunately due to narrow crossing points, Helen said.

Starting from the car park, the course is flat and heads towards Barmouth, over the footbridge and turns just after picnic bench there will be cones and a marshal to give directions. Back to the car park, before running out over the footbridge again.Position ↓ Gender Position ↓ parkrunner ↓ Club ↓ Run Time ↓
