- Bretts Parkrun Roundup

Brett's parkrun review for Coronation Day 6th May 2023

by Brett Rumfitt

A total of 44 runners took part at Great Salterns parkrun event #70

I was RD on a damp day but not too many were mud-spattered at the finish. A few had Red, White and Blue gear on. I did, but no-one would have seen under my waterproof coat! Jason was 9th male and 9th in the Age-Graded Percentages and Alex Yorke 7th female. Thank you to all who helped out. The main bonus of this event being small, is that we recognise the regulars, also the ones who come occasionally. Also new runners are easier to spot and it is great to speak with the visitors to see where they've travelled from.

Thanks to the volunteers
We are very grateful to the volunteers who made this event happen: Darren BARBER, Lauren BARBER, Lysanne BROOMFIELD, Math CHARLTON, Matthew FLEET, Ian GREGORY, Tony HEWETT, Stephen HOPES, Luke LININGTON, Helen MAYHEAD, Alex MILLHAM, Edward MORRIS, Brett RUMFITT, Sally RUMFITT, Jason SMITH, Dan WARREN-HOLLAND, Natasha WHITE, Samuel WINTON

Why not get involved and volunteer? We are not too badly off on the 13th but could always do with a couple more marshals and other positions in the coming weeks.

A total of 101 runners took part at Haldon Forest parkrun event #140. The course is at Haldon Forest Park, Exeter. The course is run entirely on trail paths.
Course Description
Set on Haldon Hill, 250m above sea-level, Haldon Forest parkrun is easily accessible from the A38.
The course covers a two loop route of 2km and 3km distances. From the start the course descends on a wide gravelly path before turning left and heading up into the trees on a steep, narrow path for 100m, please stay right here to allow overtaking on the left. Because of the width of this section, the course is unsuitable for canicross-harnessed participants. At the top of this ascent the course levels out, passing through the forest and through a rhododendron tunnel to the ridgeway, which has stunning views across the Exe basin to Exeter, before returning to the start. The second loop goes a further 500m beyond the first turning point before a longer climb back through the woods. At the end of this loop we turn right to head for the finish funnel.

Robert is our 2nd runner here in Devon after Jason Smith.

Becci is our 2nd runner here after John Burchett The course is at Frenchfield Sports Centre, Penrith. The course is run on a mixture of gravel and tarmac paths. Penrith parkrun is an anti-clockwise two laps of the Frenchfield Sports Centre site. The route is in the main flat and has a dedicated path the full length of the course. There is ample space to also run on the grass alongside the established path. Starting outside the pavilion the route heads north and follows the perimeter of the site before being led through an area of trees and vegetation. The route follows the river bank with the River Eamont on your right. The route then heads on to a tarmac surface for 250metre before leading back on to the path to the rear of the football stadium. The path returns up the road turning right on to the amenity field, before joining the main site at the yellow gate. Head back towards the Pavilion and the second lap commences. The finish is in the designated tunnel opposite the pavilion.
