Brett's parkrun review 24th June 2023

This week I can bring you results from England, Scotland and Wales, but Ireland will have to wait until next week. 51 runners at 14 different events. Let's begin locally where total of 88 runners took part at Great Salterns parkrun event #77

Highlights were a notable 1st place for Paul Osborne near to his PB, Sam Winton in 5th also near his best here, Richard Walker 6th and Alex Gannon 10th also close to his PB. Olivia Scammell was 5th female, Libby Osborne 6th and Julie 10th. Paul has previously finished 1st here on 1 occasion.

In the Age-Graded Percentages, John Burchett was 2nd, Paul Osborne 5th & Rich Walker 7th.

Why not get involved and volunteer? On 8th July is our NHS 75th Anniversary parkrun and we could still do with some marshals, but especially someone for pre-event set up , post-event close down and a token sorter.The last 3 positions also enable you to run if you wish. Indeed if ou finish in under 25 mins, you could hop on and scan too.

Also on 15th July, Southsea parkrun is very likely to be cancelled so we will have more runners here, so another scanner would be appreciated.

A morning tour around the Festival Theatre meant a revisit to Chichester for me. As many know, it's not the easiest course with keeps goin back and forth across the rugby pitches uphill, but a welcome tarmac slope down. I managed to knock 4 secs off my 2022 best on a very hot day. I also had the 4th best Age-Graded Percentage.

Course Description
Figure of 8 on the tarmac paths around the sports pitches and wooded area of Tremorfa Park, Cardiff, two and three quarter laps with an offset start.

Course Description
The route consists of three anti-clockwise laps of Levengrove Park, Dumbarton, run entirely on tarmac. The course starts and finishes close to the new pavilion. It is an undulating course passing the main attractions of the park as well as running alongside two rivers. There is one sharp downhill section which should be taken with care.

Jason made his debut here in Totton, some 1:28 faster than Ian Briscoe's previous best for a BFC runner.
Course Description
The course is 2 loops of the footpaths in Bartley Park, West Totton.

Starting near Testbourne Play Area, head on the main path towards Ashurst Bridge, crossing a small wooden bridge then turning left alongside Bartley Water. Head up the slope and follow the path to the right. Cross the main path into the skate park, turning along a gravel track then onto the tarmac to the first turnaround point. We then return to the main path, turning left to head back towards the start. At the playpark, turn left towards Briarwood Road, to the 2nd turnaround point. Head back to the main path to complete the first lap. Turn right for the 2nd lap, and proceed as before, at the end of the 2nd lap turn left towards the finish which is about 100m away at the ball park.
