Brett's parkrun review 8th July 2023
Finally catching up on parkrun reports, I'll begin again with the 3 most local ones.
Celebrating 75 years of the NHS, at Great Salterns, where I was Run Director for the 9th time, we avoided most of the rain (unlike Southsea) and the thunder which preceded and followed the event. There were quite a few NHS employees past & present here including 2 in blue scrubs. I actually got Sally to tailwalk with a large blow-up syringe!
It was quite a day for Laura Richardson and her family with all 5 getting PBs. Laura herself in 1st female position beat hers by 1:04, sister Carrie was 2:56 faster and her 2 sons Ethan and Isaac beating theirs by 3:37 & 3:18 respectively. Laura's other nephew Ryan bettered his by 2:52. Ashleigh Berryman ran a 1:29 PB and Linda Turner a 49 sec best. Linda, Ryan, Ethan and Isacc do not have a running club on the parkrun profiles so I have added their times. It's easy to add your club if you wish to.
A total of 86 runners took part at Great Salterns parkrun event #79
Gordon, Richard and Ian (close to his PB) were in the top 10 males, Laura,Becci, Julie, Carrie and Ashleigh were in the top 10 females.

Thanks to the volunteers
We are very grateful to the volunteers who made this event happen: Kate ENGLISH, Ian GREGORY, Louise GRIFFIN, Paul GRIFFIN, Lynne JOLLEY, Jen LITTLE, Gill MATTHEWS, Edward MORRIS, Brett RUMFITT, Sally RUMFITT, Debbie SPICER, Clive TUCKER, Maria TUCKER, Michele WEBB, Janice WELLSTEAD, Samuel WINTON
Why not get involved and volunteer? If every person who ran, helped once a month it would be great, but we do have some really helpful volunteers who assist on a more regular basis. Some roles mean you can run too, but we seem to be short of marshals recently.

Last but certainly not least total of 327 runners took part at Brockwell parkrun, Herne Hill event #549
It's run in Brockwell Park on wide concrete paths.
Course Description
Brockwell parkrun course is a 5km run that starts on the path near the back of the Lido, beginning with an almost-complete anti-clockwise lap of the perimeter of the park. After passing the park bench by the Lido, the route turns left past the BMX track. The route then goes over the top of the hill and straight down, rejoining the perimeter path back towards the Lido. The finish is just after passing the Lido for the second time.
The pre-run briefing, finish and scanning take place on the hard surface between the Lido and the BMX track.
Ian made his debut here. and he is now our fastest beating Jason Smith (23:23) and Alex Gannon (24:16)

Getting there by public transport
Brixton underground station in situated approximately 13 mins away from the starting point. You can take a bus to Dulwich Road from Brixton. Take Bus 3 from Stop N towards Crystal Palace Parade or Bus 196 from Stop P towards Norwood Junction Station. Bus routes 3, 37, 68, 196, 201, 322, 468 serve Brockwell Lido or Herne Hill/Brockwell Park. Alternatively, Herne Hill station is approximately 6 minutes away from the starting point.
I'm planning to do this one on 22nd July so as well as having an eye on Ian's time, I also have to get there! I had planned to do it in June however it was cancelled. Last month we were in the area and a massive crowd swarmed onto our late night bus from a festival in the park, most covered in glitter and bright make-up! Looks like it is cancelled fairly often.
