Durham parkrun

A total of 303 runners took part at Durham parkrun event #521

Ian Saynorwas our 1st runner her, the day before his 'great' Great North Run.

Course Description (grass paths & tarmac)

The course begins at the corner of the athletics track at Durham University's Maiden Castle sports facility around the 200m point. Heading towards Shincliffe the first part of the course is over grass before heading onto the riverside path on the nearside bank of the River Wear. The run continues along the path before crossing the wooden bridge to the other side of the river. Turning right at the end of the bridge, still on a riverside path the route heads again towards Shincliffe before a period running around the outer edge of a series of grass playing fields. This leads back to the wooden bridge at which point you re-join the riverside path and head right towards Durham City centre. The route heads over a reasonably narrow second bridge and after this the reminder of the run is a largely flat tarmac path that crosses Baths Bridge and finishes near the bandstand on the Racecourse in central Durham City where the finish funnel will be clearly visible.

Ally Pally parkrun

A total of 328 runners took part at Ally Pally parkrun event #513

Course Description (gravel and trail paths). With the heat and tough hills done twice, this was my 2nd hardest parkrun.

The course is an anti-clockwise 2-lap course (with and out and back section on the main path). The course starts on the big avenue across the park and then goes down on the bottom path along the cricket pitch before going up onto the upper path of the park. This big loop is done a twice. The route then goes back on the wide avenue by the finish.

I had the 6th best Age Grade.

Thanks to the volunteers

We are very grateful to the volunteers who made this event happen: Julie ALLAN, Robert BILTON, Lysanne BROOMFIELD, Kev BUDD, John BURCHETT, Kate ENGLISH, Steve HOLDER, Lynne JOLLEY, Jenner LEWIS, Sarah LUSCOMBE, Robert MARSH, Helen MAYHEAD, Edward MORRIS, Stephen ROSE, Janet SAMPSON, Jason SMITH, Debbie SPICER, Nikki WRIGHT

Why not get involved and volunteer? Oddly all our RDs are not able to help on 16th September, so Stephen Rose has very kindly stepped in from Southsea. If some of our other regulars are here, they would help him to run the event smoothly. We only need a couple more marshals, so thanks so much everyone for helping out.

This review will be on our website where you can buy kit and memberships, which are due soon??

Also of interest may be the Run Britain Rankings, where you sign up for free, and they will work out your handicap like in golf, just see their website and put in your name, details and Baffins as your club. You can then compare how you are doing against others and yourself previously. Parkrun results are added automatically and some other affilated races are too. Quite a few of us are on there. If you did a slower time than usual, but the course, or weather was tough, it takes that into account. Have a look and search for other Baffins runners.
