- Bretts Parkrun Roundup

Brett's parkrun review 9th December 2023.

by Brett Rumfitt

Only 25 BFC runners ran parkruns on this day as the weather and Christmas take effect.

A total of 43 runners took part.

Great Salterns parkrun event #101

On a very wet course, many after a late night at the BFC Christmas Party, Ian Briscoe and Sam Winton were in the top 10 and in the Age Grades, Ian was 10th and me 1st. Becci Knowles and Maria Tucker were in the top 10 female finishers.

We had a runner from Sydney (NSW) so was he our furthest visitor?

Bushy parkrun (the home of parkrun)

A total of 816 runners took part.

Bushy parkrun event #960

Course Description

A fast, flat course that runs anticlockwise from close to the Diana Fountain in Bushy Park. After 250 metres or so on grass, running parallel with the play park, the course moves onto a hoggin path towards the Church Grove gate. There is a left turn to take you around the edge of Hampton Wick Cricket Club. Continue towards the Hampton Wick gate and take a left turn into Cobbler’s Walk (also called Nightingale Lane). After passing The Leg-of-Mutton Pond there is a right turn onto a track towards the Sandy Lane gate. On reaching the gate, there is a left turn to take you along the perimeter (hoggin) path towards the Teddington Gate. A further left turn will take you onto the grass of Chestnut Avenue. There is another left turn back onto Cobbler’s Walk. A marshal will indicate the point at which you will make a right turn onto a track to run towards Heron Pond, over a little bridge - be careful of the tree roots in the 100m section approaching the bridge - round the South side of the pond on a hoggin path or grass (your choice) - the finish is in sight!

Occasionally, the start will revert to the Diana Fountain end of Chestnut Avenue. This may be as a result of other events in the park or dangerous conditions.

Liam John Bradshaw made a good debut at this huge event.

Fairview parkrun event #245

Alex Gannon debuted here at Clontarf, Dublin and ran a great time. He is now our fastest here.

Course Description

The course start area is located at the top of the park at the path beside the football pitches. The run, walk & jog starts on this path, traveling down the path taking a right turn onto the main pathway in the park keeping in the left lane. Take the 2nd left off the main path onto a small path and continue to the end of this path. Take a left onto the grass staying on the grass at all time, continue until you pass the skate park, through the area beside the trees. After the trees you take a right turn onto the main path, keeping in the left lane. When you reach the red brick building take a left, keep on the path along the wall beside the riverside until the pedestrian bridge. Take the second path left up the incline to the train track fencing. Continue straight and take the first left path back towards the start area. The three laps follow the same route with the finish funnel located on the grass area parallel to the start area.
