- Bretts Parkrun Roundup

Brett's parkrun review from 16th December 2023

by Brett Rumfitt

A total of 22 runners took part at Great Salterns parkrun event #102

The local one for many members saw only 2 of our runners and also our lowest event total ever(although another 6 volunteered). However this is the only time we have made the list of 10 least attended events.

The attendance was no doubt affected by the quadruple whammy of the recent weather, the following days Marathon/Half/Ultra, Christmas approaching and the closure of the southbound part of the Eastern Rd.

However clegend James Baker graced us with his presence (he really likes us and has run in 12 of our 102 events.

Thanks to the volunteers

We are very grateful to the volunteers who made this event happen: Catherine BETTS, Kev BUDD, Oliver GIBBONS, Jo GILHOLM, Ian GREGORY, Thomas JELLIFF, Tim LEHOTA, Jen LITTLE, Helen MAYHEAD, Edward MORRIS, Brett RUMFITT, Jason SMITH, Janice WELLSTEAD

John Bucketsofrain was 8th, 7th male and 3rd in the Age-Graded Percentages. Neil Griffith was 8th male and near his fastest here.

Why not get involved and volunteer? Some place are still available for December 30th and New Year's Day.

It is at Charlton Playing Fields, a simple, fast and flat 2 lap course mainly on grass with some tarmac and gravel pathways. Perfect for PBs. Unfortunately dogs are not allowed at this event due to narrow sections on the course making it unsafe, however we welcome our four legged friends to accompany our volunteers

Sam Winton made a good debut here in his home county and takes the fastest Baffineer place previously held by Ian Saynor

The course is in Chantry Park, Ipswich. The course is run on grass, with some sections of tarmac, gravel path and woodland trail. There is an extremely long course description on the website. I've not copied it here, as it would take as long to read it as the rest of the report!

A total of 289 runners took part at Southsea parkrun event #463

Steven Parker was near his best on a fairly rare parkrun appearance.
