- Bretts Parkrun Roundup

Brett's parkrun stats review for 18th May 2024

by Brett Rumfitt

A total of 78 runners took part at Great Salterns parkrun event #126

When I look at the consolidated report Great Salterns is always at the bottom of the list, or so it seems. I always make it top together with the other 2 Portsmouth ones.

2 first places today for Jack Ingleby (for the 7th time here) and for Christine McCullough. (who has been 1st female at 7 different parkruns and this equalled her highest overall position)

Christine Mc was very near her PB and another highlight was a huge 17 sec PB for Nick Lay.

Maria Tucker was 9th female.

Thanks to the volunteers

We are very grateful to the volunteers who made this event happen: Stefanie ARNOLD, Peter BOND, Sophie GILGANNON, Ian GREGORY, Louise GRIFFIN, Soichiro KAWAI, Nick LAY, Jen LITTLE, Helen MAYHEAD, Kirsty MILLS, David MOORE, Edward MORRIS, Anay SHINDE, Gracie-May SILLS, Jason SMITH, Jen STONEHAM, Austin TAYLOR, Clive TUCKER, Maria TUCKER, Janice WELLSTEAD, Yuma YAJI

Why not get involved and volunteer? This week we are looking for someone to help with the pre-event set up, the close down, token sorting and marshals. Our club is brilliant at helping this event, which we played a large part in setting up.

A total of 315 runners took part at Kingston parkrun event #662

Ian Briscoe is now our fastest here taking over from Alex Gannon

Course Description

The event starts in the green space between Burnell Road and the River Thames, at the boundary between Kingston and Richmond. The first 500m of the course is on grass and then onto the upper cycle path to Teddington lock with the river on your left. At the lock you run under the footbridge and continue on the towpath, pass Thames Young Mariners. Keep left and continue until you see a marshal at the half way point, who will direct you onto a small loop within Hamlands (this will be marshalled/marked or both). This will bring you back out onto the towpath at Thames Young Mariners. From there you follow the outward route back to the Hawker centre with the river on your right. Continue past the starting area and run for approximately 300m and the finish funnel is just off the path. The finish is close to the main car park. Nearest postcode KT2 5BH. Well done, enjoy and be safe.

Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed at this event.

A total of 516 runners took part at Lee-on-the-Solent parkrun event #404

A pretty unique husband and wife 1st place double here for the 2 Stubbington runners that Jason Smith and I met at the National Running Show in Farnborough a few years ago. To show that it is not just the Bognor 10k that can get results wrong, Amie was not initially given her 1st female prize at the Hayling Billy 5m in 2022 at first as they did not think she was female!

Now to Norway where a total of 118 runners took part at Tøyen (Oslo) parkrun event #227

Sam Winton masde his debut herebut was not our 1st runner here. That was Olivia Scammell who ran here just over 5 years ago.

The meeting point is at the bottom of the park (the finish). The start is just above the big white statue, at the walking path. The parkrun consists of 3,5 loops clockwise around the park and ends on a grassy section in the bottom of the hill. The course is a mixture of hilly ups and downs and flat straights which affords views out over Oslo. Most of the course is on asphalt, but there is one strech on grass.
