Brett's BFC Members parkrun review for 1st June 2024

by Brett Rumfitt

I make it 48 members at 11 different events this week. Sorry it's a bit of a rushed review today!

We begin close to home for many when I was Run Director again on a dry course.

Jack Ingleby was 1st finisher and Christine was 1st female only a few seconds outside her recent best time. Craig was 10th. Nick Lay ran a superb 47 sec PB (over 1 min off in 2 weeks) and Dean Rockett a 22 sec one.

A total of 58 runners took part at Great Salterns parkrun event #128

Thanks to the volunteers

We are very grateful to the volunteers who made this event happen: Ian BRISCOE, Alex GANNON, Jim HAILSTONE, Stephen JANSEN, Lynne JOLLEY, Nick LAY, Jennifer LAZELL, Jen LITTLE, Neil PRIDDLE, Jill RENSON, Brett RUMFITT, Sally RUMFITT, Gordon SCRUTON, Anay SHINDE, Clive TUCKER, Maria TUCKER, Janice WELLSTEAD, Samuel WINTON

Why not get involved and volunteer? The Duke of Edinburgh children have their last week on 8th June so we will be grateful of more help in the near future.

A total of 189 runners took part at Plymvalley parkrun event #536

Jason Smith debuted here and is our 1st to run on this course.

Course Description

The course starts beside the ancient Plymbridge. Follow along a narrow canal path, which can be muddy and very uneven in places, above the River Plym. Climb up a steep uneven path, and then drop down onto the tarmac track (National cycle route 27)

Turn right, and follow level tarmac track through Plymvalley woods. A steep uneven decline takes you back onto the canal path where you turn sharp right and complete another loop alongside the canal and up the short hill for a second time.

On reaching tarmac path now turn left. Continue over the old railway viaduct out to and around a marshalled cone. Now return straight back down the track/cycle route, across the viaduct, and through the Plymvalley woods, towards the start/finish. This time turning left after descending the final slope, go under the bridge and back to the finish at the original start point.

John Bucketsofrain was near his best here.

Course Description

An out and back course on Keswick Railway Path, from the bollards just after the old station to a turn-around at the iron bridge. The whole course is tarmac, quite flat for Keswick (!) and has great views of the river all the way. The last half mile should be really fast. Road running shoes are best suited.

A total of 46 runners took part at Aachener Weiher parkrun event #206

Route description

The course is located in Hiroshima-Nagasaki Park (known locally as Aachener Weiher), which lies between Aachener Strasse and Universitätsstrasse in Cologne. It is a hilly two-lap course that runs around the pond in the park and around the parkland.

Participants meet at the benches in the notch behind the Japanese Cultural Institute for a briefing and then make their way to the start line, which is very close to the benches. There are entrances for people walking at Aachener Strasse, Universitätsstrasse, Bachemer Strasse and Richard-Wagner Strasse. The course winds through the park, following the park's edge path until reaching the pond by the beer garden, where runners turn left to return along the pond's edge path past the benches to complete the first lap. Then another lap follows to complete the course.

The finish is on a gravel path back to the start and benches and allows for a nice sprint finish and is clearly marked.
