Brett's BFC Members parkrun review for 15th June 2024
Firstly for tomorrow's Great Salterns parkrun we really could do with a couple more marshals and a scanner. Sorry it's a late request but we would be very grateful. I shall be there tomorrow doing something (whatever is needed!)
So, onto the events. 41 members took part at 8 events.

Becci Knowles was 3rd female finisher and our 1st to run on this course.
Course Description: Plean Country Park, Cadgers Loan, Plean FK7 8BB. Equideistant from Falkirk and Stirling.
A beautiful course starting in front of the ruins of Plean House. The course is a mixture of track, trail and tarmac, with undulating sections. The course winds through former grand drives and woodland of the estate which once belonged to the pit owner.
Due to the rough terrain, parts of the course may not be suitable for buggies.

A total of 508 runners took part at Southwark parkrun event #477
Jason Smith ran a fast time here on his debut, beating the previous best for a Baffins runner (Ian Briscoe) by 20 seconds.
Course Description
Southwark parkrun is a flat 3-lap course taking place in the southern half of Southwark Park. The start and finish are on grass but 95% of the course takes place on tarmac. We recommend any participants who require an accessible start that’s not on grass to get in touch with the event team (southwark@parkrun.com) so we can direct you to our accessible start point.
We meet under trees on the edge of the playing fields near the Gallery and head to the cricket nets for the pre-run briefing and start line. After three laps, the finish line and finish funnel is off the path on grass. The 3 laps are not all identical: at the fork near the end of each lap, the course takes the longer right-hand route on the first lap and the shorter left-hand route on laps 2 and 3. We encourage participants to keep right where possible on our course and to overtake on the left when there is enough room to do so safely.
Getting there by public transport
Bus: Buses 1, 199, 225 and 381 stop directly outside the park entrance on Lower Road. Buses 47, 188 and P12 also stop very close to the park entrance.
Overground: The entrance to Southwark Park is a one minute walk from Surrey Quays Overground station. On leaving the station head towards the Yellow House restaurant on the opposite side of the road. Continue past the restaurant and the entrance to Southwark Park will be on the left.
Tube: The nearest tube station to Southwark Park is Canada Water on the Jubilee line. The park is a 10-minute walk from the station. Head right out of the bus station and south down Surrey Quays Road. At the end of the road cross over to Seven Islands Leisure Centre then head left and the entrance to the park will be on your right.
Getting there on foot
The park is a short walk from Surrey Quays and Canada Water Station. The Surrey Quays entrance is located on Lower Road, one minute from Surrey Quays overground station.

A total of 149 runners took part at Parke (Bovey Tracey) parkrun event #445
Course Description: The course is run on a mixture of trail paths, tarmac path and gravel cycle path.
The start and finish area is on the private drive to Parke House. After 90m head off right down the stoney path past the meadow, at the gate head straight across the crossroads and after passing the big wooden shed turn left up the STEEP HILL. Stay on this path until for about one kilometre and turn sharp right near the gate at the far end of the Parke property, follow the lower valley path for one kilometre back towards the cross roads. When you get back to the crossroads turn left which will take you over two bridges over the old mill stream and River Bovey.
On the other side of the second bridge continue straight ahead and take the path up onto the old railway line (Wray Valley Trail). Turn left along the trail for about 500m before taking a right up the hill into the trees. At the top of the hill turn right and follow the path all the way round dropping back onto the old railway before turning left and following it for 200m before turning right back over the bridges to the crossroads. Turn left through the gate and back up the stoney path finish line.

A total of 39 runners took part at Great Yarmouth North Beach parkrun event #151
Rich Harris and Nikki Harris are our 1st runners here and Nikki was 6th female.
Course Description (it is supposed to be one of the hardest in the UK)
The course is two laps clockwise all on SAND/SHINGLE! The Dunes have an abundance of wildlife and fauna some of which is protected. We are not permitted to run through the dunes nor upon the narrow promenade. Keep on the sand passing to the left of arrow markers to circumnavigate the dunes. Please stick to the edge of the dunes and not run in the sea at the waters edge.
Starting on the beach facing east, halfway to the sea on the right hand side of the Sandown Road extension. From the start it's 150m east towards the sea. Turn right at the corner and keep to the edge of the dunes for 250m south before the dunes end. Cross open beach for 250m south to the end of Britannia Pier. Turn right for 150m west towards land. Turn right where the pier narrows going north across open beach for 200m north to the corner of the dunes. Keep to the edge of the dunes for 250m north passing the Sandown Road slipway. Then keep left adjacent to the promenade for 450m. Turn right just before the Beaconsfield Road slipway for 200m east towards the sea. Turn right at the outer edge of the dunes for 600m south completing lap-1. Onwards towards the end of the pier for a second lap and repeat. To finish, turn right at Sandown Road extension point for 150m west towards land. The finish funnel will be on your right.
Due to the course taking place on a beach it is not suitable for buggies unless designed for sand. Please contact the team if you wish to have further information.
