- Bretts Parkrun Roundup

Brett's BFC Members parkrun review for 10th August 2024

by Brett Rumfitt

I make it 43 members ran at 16+ (a record?) events.

A total of 52 parkrunners took part at Great Salterns parkrun event #138

Jack Ingleby (near his fastest here) and Ian Saynor (PB by 18secs) were in the top 10 in a run won by Peter Newman, brother of Helen Newman and son of Alison and Geoff Newman.

Nick Lay was near his PB too as he continues his consistent run of results. Hayley made her GS debut as she and Maria Tucker were in the top 10 females.

Thanks to the volunteers

We are very grateful to the volunteers who made this event happen: Julie ALLAN, Stefanie ARNOLD, Carol DARE, Ian GREGORY, Lynne JOLLEY, Pete JONES, Nick LAY, Jen LITTLE, Helen MAYHEAD, Edward MORRIS, Janet SAMPSON, Jason SMITH, Leonie SNELL, Clive TUCKER, Janice WELLSTEAD, Cathy WILLATT, Lucy WOODS

Why not get involved and volunteer? On 24th we could do with another timekeeper, scanners, marshals and someone on set-up.

Paul Daniel Norris debuted here in the Highlands. I'm still our fastest here at 21:42

Course Description

This is an undulating out and back course on a scenic stretch of the Speyside Way. The surface is a gravel track and the area varies from broadleaved woodland at the beginning, to coniferous forest and then finally heather moorland.

The run brief will take place at the start of the track which leads away from the industrial estate. Participants will then walk (around 100m) to the start/ finish on the Speyside Way.

At the 2.5k turn bollard, take a second to look to the left to admire the mountain view over the Cairngorm National Park. After collecting your timing token, walk back towards the briefing point, where scanners will be located.

Course Description

The course starts and finishes just above Millfield House near Pet’s Corner and runs through the dene on a path parallel to Red Walk. It follows a few left and right turns, taking you round to 21 steps and a steep hill up to Paddy Freeman’s Park. There is a big loop followed by a small loop of this park before descending a steep hill and back along the path to the finish.

Due to steps on the course it may not be suitable for buggies - please contact the team in advance for further advise on the course.

Dogs are not allowed at this event.

Paul Griffin and Louise Griffin (taking a break from their Hadrian's Wall walk) made their debuts and Louise was 4th female. Paul takes our record from Eric De Greef

Course Description (West End, Southampton)

One lap of the start field followed by the bridle path (closed for horses during parkrun), then there's a technical area with loads of turns inside the bridle path to then return near the start area and then proceeding to the forest trail. This is a one lap course. The start and finish are in the same spot.

A total of 453 parkrunners took part at Roberts Park (Baildon) parkrun event #141

Course Description

The start line is on the main promenade, close to the lodge. The course then begins by heading along the full length of the promenade, before doing a 180' turn and returning along the promenade in the opposite direction. Two right turns at the end of the promenade will then take you alongside the cricket pitch and café. A right turn just before the cricket pavilion will then take you out onto the nature trail through a narrow gate. Follow the nature trail til the far end passing either side of the staircase, where a hairpin turn will take you back in the opposite direction, along the bottom of the houses.

Then cross over the short grass section past the goalposts, and turn left up the snicket. Follow the signs through the snicket (it's not cricket to overtake in the snicket), and then follow the path around the top of the park. A right turn will then bring you back out onto the promenade. That is your first lap completed.

Complete a second lap, but this time a right turn three quarters of the way along the path after the snicket will take you to the finish line.

I ran here, my first completed parkrun since May. It went well although I've had a little setback since. Probably about 2 mins slower than normal but still 2nd in Age Group.
