Baffins Blog- Bretts Parkrun Roundup

Brett's BFC Members parkrun review 12th April 2025

by Brett Rumfitt

I make it 52 members ran at 11 different courses this week.

We begin with a rarity, a NEW parkrun locally.

Course Description

A flat out and back course following the Meon Valley disused railway line. Starting 350 metres north east from the Wickham old station car park, it runs directly out for 2.5km before an about turn at a bridge heading back to the finish line.

Mostly compacted gravel with some sections which can get wet and muddier during winter months. Narrow in some places but generally plenty of room for passing, buggies and dogs on leads.

Getting there by road

Turning off the A334 into Wickham Square continue down the square leaving via Bridge Road at the far end. Follow the road round and down to the right where you take the left onto Mill Lane. The next right signposted to the car park and the Meon Valley trail is less than 100m from the start.

Travelling on the A32 as you reach Wickham turn towards the village centre opposite the church, under the bridge take the right onto Mill Lane and the next right to the car park. This is 100m from the start of the course.

Limited free parking is available near the start (60 spaces) as well as ample parking within the village square (140 spaces) which is 5 minutes walk from the start - car parking charges apply Free parking is also available at Wickham recreation ground (50 spaces).

A total of 388 parkrunners took part at Meon Valley Trail parkrun, Wickham event #1

Jack Ingleby smashed his course PB by 49 seconds but was outdone by Dad Paul Ingleby (9th) in the PB stakes at least as he destroyed his by 52 seconds. Jack Ingleby was 1st, James Millham 2nd in his 1st event for 18 months (he plays a lot if tennis now)and Yarian Slevin (8th) ran his now customary PB (13 secs). I was 10th but did better in the age grades (4th). Other age grades were Jack 2nd, Julie Allan Fuller 6th, Paul 7th, James 9th and Yarien 10th.

Julie Allan Fuller was 7th female.

I think Alex Gannon ran his fastest with dog Squid??
