Baffins Blog- Bretts Parkrun Roundup

Brett's BFC Members parkrun review 30th August 2025

by Brett Rumfitt

(Early as new computer due and not sure when it will be sorted)

52 of us took part at 8 different events this week.

Edinburgh parkrun

A total of 727 parkrunners took part.

Course Description

The route consists of one lap of the Cramond / Silverknowes Promenade. It is scenic, flat and run on generally wide footpaths. As it borders the Firth of Forth, you can be exposed to the elements, so please bear this in mind when dressing for the event. The course is designed to be enjoyable, rather than for pure 'PB' speed. It is all tarmac, although there are areas where water, mud and leaves can accumulate after rain, so please exercise caution. Regular running shoes are suitable.

From the start line (0.5km east from Cramond Village), you will follow the promenade for a period of roughly 2.5 km; you will have the Firth of Forth to your left. Look out for landmarks such as Birnie Rocks and Ronald Rae's eight tonne Fish Sculpture which can be seen standing proud on the beach.

Shortly after passing the 2km marker, a marshal will point you in the direction of the new section of promenade which you will follow for a short time. This section of the course was renamed at our third anniversary event in 2012 as "The Fiona Crawford Loop" in memory of our fellow parkrunner. You will then follow the signs and take a right turn onto the first footpath across the park and then turn right again at the end of this footpath to rejoin the old promenade and from there, you will start the straight run back towards the finish line. The tips of both the Forth Road and Rail Bridges will be visible, as will the tall white ship's mast at Cramond Village.

A great 1st place for Jack Ingleby in a large event. He and Paul Ingleby certainly demolished my time of 20:29 in 2016.

It was the 2nd fastest parkrun by Jack Ingleby and Paul Ingleby's time was his All parkrun PB by 7 secs. Jack had the 6th best Age Grade and passed the 'National' percentage at over 80%

Pocket parkrun (St. Neots)

A total of 234 parkrunners took part.

Course Description

Pocket parkrun is a two lap anticlockwise course that starts on Sydney Banks Memorial Field behind Ernulf Academy/One Leisure. The course continues on wide tarmac paths, before crossing the grass meadows near the Willow Bridge. We then progress along a forest trail by the banks of the River Great Ouse, before completing the lap on another tarmac path. After the second lap we U-turn back into the field for the finish.

The trail portions of the course feature trip hazards such as tree roots and rabbit holes and can be muddy at times.

If there has been recent rainfall and you have them, we recommend running in trail shoes.

Due to the terrain and narrow parts of the course it may make it harder for participants with buggies & pushchairs - please contact the team in advance for further information.

Unfortunately we cannot accommodate buggies wider than 650mm.

An alternate three lap winter course is used between November and March.

Wynyard Woodland parkrun, Stockton-on-Tees.

A total of 159 parkrunners took part.

Course Description (Grass, gravel and trail)

Wynyard Woodland parkrun, on the Castle Eden walkway, follows the old railway line and is entirely composed of hard surfaces. There can be small sections of mud, leaves, and puddles during inclement weather. The course is designed as an out-and-back route, with a halfway turning point, providing two opportunities to appreciate the stunning scenery. The start and finish line are located on the walkway adjacent to the platform and café, great for spectators to watch and for you to hydrate after your run/walk. The course has a very slight incline (hardly noticeable) on the way out and after the turning point it’s all flat and downhill from there. Great course for a PB! While the parkrun includes well-positioned marshals and signage, the path is shared with other users, hence courtesy and consideration are necessary to maintain the parkrun's ongoing success. The course is suitable for pushchairs.
