Baffins Blog- Bretts Parkrun Roundup

Brett's BFC Members parkrun review for 3rd August 2024

by Brett Rumfitt

I make it 40 members ran at 9 different events.

A total of 73 parkrunners took part at Great Salterns parkrun event #137

Nick Hughes ran a 46 sec PB in 10th place and was 4th in the Age-Graded Percentages, Nick Lay was near his PB and John Burchett was 5th best Age-Grade.

The Rowsells and Crosses were here and it was good to see them back. Lisa Cross was 6th female and Katie Beasley 9th.

The name of the 1st female made me laugh as she was the runner who screamed out really loudly as I overtook her on the line at the Gosport Half a few years ago! She still beat me on chip time so not sure what that was all about?

Thanks to the volunteers

We are very grateful to the volunteers who made this event happen: Mark COOMBES, Matthew FLEET, Rachel GREENER, Nikki HARRIS, Stephen JANSEN, Lynne JOLLEY, Jean-Patrick JUDSON, Rebecca KNOWLES, Nick LAY, Alisdair LITTLE, Jen LITTLE, Bob PENTLAND, Neil PRIDDLE, Carol SEYMOUR, Jason SMITH, Robert TURNER-DIAMOND, Janice WELLSTEAD, Samuel WINTON

Why not get involved and volunteer? I know it's an early call out but on 10th August we need a timekeeper, a barcode scanner, someone to give out finish tokens and also could do with a few marshals.

A total of 383 parkrunners took part at Southsea parkrun event #498. Southsea is cancelled on 17th August due to the Southsea rowing Regatta. Ironically last year the Regatta itself was cancelled due to high winds, meaning that the usual windy parkrun could have taken place.

Paul Osborne ran a good time here.

Members of Grasshopper Coaching did a volunteer takeover. You will recognise some of our members who are in both clubs (six??).

Still at Appley Park east of Ryde while the IOW Festival field at Newport recovers. If you are going to this summer course, check the hovercraft times as when we went we had a 1 mile fast warm-up to the start (about 1 mile)

Tracy Strydom debuted. Our fastest man is Richard Walker 21:39 and woman Louise Griffin 23:07

Course Description (Grass, sandy prom, trail, hill)

We start on the green above the car park at Appley Park.

We do a loop of the green, then pick up the path at the top of the green, and follow it all the way to the promenade. We turn left, and left again to follow the path that runs through the small copse. At the end of that path, we turn right and head back to the promenade. We then turn right and run all the way along the promenade, with the beach huts on our right, until we reach the end. We then turn right, and right again to run back through 'The Moat'. At the end of 'The Moat', we head back along the promenade until we reach 'The Big Hill'. We turn left and run up the hill. We head to the end of that path and finish with a second loop of the green, this time in the opposite direction to before.

A total of 560 (their 4th highest) parkrunners took part at Eden Project parkrun event #240

Alex Yorke and James Yorke debuted here. Our fastest is Chi SO 25:43

Course Description. The course is at the Eden Project, Bodelva, Par. The course is run entirely on permanent paths.

The course starts by the ‘Banana’ coach and car parks and skirts the top of the crater before descending into two and two-thirds anti-clockwise laps which zigzag inside the crater, passing around the Core and in front of the Mediterranean and Rainforest Biomes. On the final lap you turn right for the finish line when you reach the en-trance of the biomes.

You used to get free entry to the Eden Project, but I heard that this may not be the case soon?

A total of 244 parkrunners took part at Frogmary Green Farm (Somerset) parkrun event #125

Not sure if Kirsty is still a member, but if so she is our 1st here.

Course Description

The course starts and finishes in the farmyard at Frogmary Green Farm. The first and last 300m are on tarmac roadway and the rest is around fields.

This is a muddy, multi terrain route. Trail shoes are advisable in wet conditions if you have them.

Unfortunately dogs are not allowed at this event.

Due to the terrain of the course participants may find that it's not suitable for buggies. Please contact the team in advance by email for further information before attending.

Please be aware that the event takes place at a working farm environment (with the equipment and aromas that this can entail!) - participants should contact the Core Team if they have particular concerns or sensory requirements before attending.

As ever, apologies for any errors or omissions.

This review will be permanently on our website where memberships and kits can be bought.

Finally, I may, just may be hopefully doing a parkrun/walk on 10th August somewhere in Yorkshire.
