- Bretts Parkrun Roundup

parkrun Review for Saturday10th December 2022

by Brett Rumfitt

We begin this week on the seafront where smaller than usual total of 259 runners took part at Southsea parkrun event #409

The highlight here was Kam Fan running his 300th parkrun. Congratulations. Kam started way back in February 2015 and all but 3 runs have been at Southsea.

A total of 186 runners took part at Ganger Farm parkrun event #4

A good load of Baffineers went to this new parkrun near Romsey which replaces the one previously in the school. All made their debuts.

The event takes place at Ganger Farm Sports Park, Jermyns Lane, Ampfield, Romsey, SO51 0EE. The course is run on a mixture of grass and permanent paths. Starting near the overflow car park, the course is 2 ½ anti-clockwise laps on a mix of tarmac and grass around two areas of sports pitches.

Becci Knowles did well to be 7th female finisher.

A total of 57 runners took part at Great Salterns parkrun event #47, I ran here instead of my intended Southsea as I wondered about ice and frost on the prom. Conditions were ok at Salterns and quite firm underfoot.

Paul Griffin and I were in the top 10 male finishers and Jo Wilkins, Louise Griffin, Julie Allan Fuller and Tracy Strydom were in the top 10 female finishers. Jo Wilkins and Tracy Strydom were not far off their fastest times here.

It was great to see Sharon Healy back running her first parkrun for 3 years and Warren Barker after a few months.

In the Age-Graded Percentages, I was 2nd, Louise Griffin 8th and Paul Griffin 10th.

Thanks to the volunteers

We are very grateful to the volunteers who made this event happen: Terrie BROWN, Kev BUDD, Kate ENGLISH, Edward GORDON, Nikki HARRIS, Lynne JOLLEY, Luke LININGTON, Helen MAYHEAD, Edward MORRIS, Brett RUMFITT, Janet SAMPSON, Gordon SCRUTON, Colin SOUTHWELL, Debbie SPICER, Janice WELLSTEAD, Samuel WINTON

Why not get involved and volunteer? Just contact the Great Salterns email and we will find you a job. Some you can do and also run. We are in particular need of marshals for the event on 17th December. I am RD for this again so hope I don't forget the essesntials in my pre-run briefing again!

We are also having events on 24th,25th,31st December and 1st January so all help will be greatfully received. I think it is time to get the Christmas running shirts and Santa hats out for these events.

Finally, good luck to all running either the Santa 5k,10k, Festive Half or Coastal Marathons this coming weekend on Sunday 18th. I'm sure we will see quite a few Baffins runners in these races.
