Parkrun report 8 June 2019

Parkrun report from Saturday 8th June 2019. I shall begin at Southsea where they held their 300th event. A special occasion in many ways as it was the nearest to D-Day 6th June. A haunting picture I saw on facebook showed the beginning of Southsea parkrun from Speaker's Corner in 1944 and 2019. The first showed barbed wire and tank traps on the beach and promenade along to the Pier. The quote was 'They fought on the beaches so that we can enjoy the beaches'. A humbling and sobering message. The weather was windy, just like 75 years ago.

Katherine Newell, Andy Seek and Esme Webber were volunteers. New members Amanda Simpson and Owen Marshall made strong debuts under the BFC banner here. In the Age-Graded times, Fiona Shaw was 3rd, I was 4th, Michael Rae 7th and Amanda Simpson 11th. Not many PBs today. Fiona Shaw, Ricky Smith, Rob Cooke and Liam John Bradshaw ran closest to their fastest times.
For those who don't know, most members who go for a tea/coffee/breakfast after go to the Deep Blue on the end of the Pier.

Elsewhere Dan Slayford made his debut at Kingdon parkrun, near Penshurst in the Tonbridge area. Dan was racing on Sunday.
