parkrun review from Saturday 11th January 2020

The numbers have been huge this year so far as parkrun, and running in general continue to become more popular.

A huge total of 1436 runners ( their most ever beating the other 2 highest also both this year!) took part at Southampton parkrun event #394 Sonny Locke is still not right after the Coastal Marathon sadly.

A total of 587(2nd highest) runners took part at Southsea parkrun event #330 Helen Newman and John Burchett (Alanna Burchett) were not far off their best times in a strong south westerly that we have come to love/loathe at Southsea promenade. Fiona Shaw ran her 100th parkrun. I remember Fiona as one of the first I saw at Southsea when we had barely 100 runners way back in 2013/2014 and she is running faster than then for sure in fact she was 7th in the Age-Graded times.

Volunteers included Duncan Gardner and Katherine Newell who I am told has now helped out 300 times! We also saw Peter Hooley in his last role as RD for a year or two. Peter was one of the first who set up Southsea parkrun from 2012-2013. Thanks to him and all helpers as always.
