- Bretts Parkrun Roundup

parkrun review for Saturday 6th November 2021

by Brett Rumfitt

Another week goes by so it's another parkrun review! I try not to begin with Southsea as it's our nearest and I prefer to show the other runs first, however, this week must start down on the south of Portsea Island for sure, where the very common south-westrerly wind was waiting for us once again.

Kam Fan ran his 250th parkrun, a great achievement and incredibly all but 2 have been here.

Ian Briscoe ran his 100th and smashed a superb 17 sec PB off his time from a month ago. In a great finish, Ian stormed past me and was gaining on Dave Rees-Whelan with Michael Rae just behind. It brought back memories of the 'not' parkrun handicaps with 4 BFC runners finishing within 9 secs and 5 places. The difference was there were no head starts this time of course. Michael Rae does a great job of pacing and encouraging.

I had forecast 2 weeks ago that Ian Briscoe and Jason Smith would be beating me within a year. Little did I know what would happen so soon!

Alex Gannon ran a 1:24 PB and Becci Knowles annoyingly equalled hers from last month, but as this week comes top of the list of her runs, I'd take it!

Mercede Alcina Pannozzo was 9th female and ran her 3rd best here. Surely with less breezy conditions, many of these times would have been up to 25 seconds faster??? Jason Smith ran well especially as I think her ran down there from Baffins.

It was good to see some people back like Sarah Spragg and even more so Susie Tebbutt who ran her 1st parkrun for 2 years.

Myself and Michael Rae were 7th and 8th respectively in the Age-Graded times.

Katherine Newell and Damien O'Neill were among the volunteers, who we all appreciate. Some volunteer roles can be done and then you can run after (like setting up) or you can scan barcodes if you finish and have got your breath back.

A total of 376 runners took part at Southsea parkrun event #354
