parkrun review 19th February 2022

Hi eveyone and welcome to my parkrun review from Saturday 19th February. Firstly can I congratulate and thank everyone who helped to get various parkruns going yesterday under the threat of high winds returning with Storm Eunice and the aftermath of Storm Dudley.

A total of 290 runners took part at Eastbourne parkrun event #467

Amanda Simpson was back here for the 1st time in nearly 2.5 years and ran a very similar time to back then. It was her 5th best in 26 attempts here and she received the 16th best age-graded time of the 290 runners and 2nd in her age group. All round a great run.

A smaller total of 276 runners took part at Southsea parkrun event #369, put off by the impending Storm Eunice and reports of there maybe being shingle on the prom.

Our intrepid crew were there though. I was meant to be there also but firtsly, the friends we were meeting there didn't travel from South Wales, and also I got a positive test on Thursday! times were slower than usual but Fiona Shaw was not that much off her recent times as she continues her comeback. Peter Fincham ran his 1st parkrun and Jenni Jones her 1st since November 2017! Katherine Newell was amongst the volunteers who also braved the conditions.

Michael Rae and Fiona Shaw were 8th and 16th respectively in the age-graded times.

A total of 386 runners took part at Crystal Palace parkrun event #506. Ian Briscoe visiting relatives, ran this one for the 1st time and is also our 1st runner here. The course is on tarmac and gravel paths and is at the Crystal Palace Sports Centre.

Helen Mayhead was our 1st runner here on here parkrun tourism, although she has run the other Worcester parkrun. I keep wanting to call this one Worcester Pitchfork!!

A total of 77 runners took part at Quinns Rocks parkrun event #234 Ben O'Shea ran his 2nd event here and 1st since August, psooibly because of Australia's covid restrictions. I'll make you a little jealous maybe with a full course desprition. It is on tarmac and concrete. Quinns Rocks parkrun is a one lap course starting at Quinns Beach foreshore and heads South. Keeping left at all times there are four out-and-back deviations then returns to the start area where it continues North along the coastal path to another turn-around point then returns along the same path to the finish. This run is all on shared coastal paths with stunning views of the Indian Ocean and the picturesque Mindarie and Quinns Rocks beach.

Finally to our newest local run, the one that many of our club have put time and effort into setting up, and even more of us are helping now it is up and running. A total of 172 runners took part at Great Salterns parkrun event #5

The course was wet and Louise Griffin did well as 3rd female finisher ( in her 1st parkrun here, although I'm sure she's been at all of them so far helping in some way or another). Jason Smith was not far off his best here as was Kevin Rowsell. There were PBs too for Eric De Greef (25secs), Craig Lunn (40secs), John Bucketsofrain (12 secs), Chi SO (43 secs), Kevin Aylward (3:31), and Colin Southwell (2:38). It was good to see Neil Priddle is back running too.

Billy Jules Bilton your tail walk was a lso a PB by 2:52.
