- Bretts Parkrun Roundup

Brett's parkrun review for 10th February 2024

by Brett Rumfitt

With a very muddy course, a total of 29 runners ( our 2nd lowest maybe as Lakeside was back on) took part at Great Salterns parkrun event #112

Both Neil Griffiths and I were in the top 10 male finishers and in stats that I can see, I had the highest Age Grade Percentage.

There were 9 first timers and incredibly 3 PBs.

Thanks to the volunteers

We are very grateful to the volunteers who made this event happen: Paula BLAIN, Rob BURFORD, Susan BURFORD, Math CHARLTON, Ian GREGORY, Jack INGLEBY, Paul INGLEBY, Thomas JELLIFF, Lynne JOLLEY, Richard JONES, Kristian LAW, Jen LITTLE, Kevin MCTAGGART, Edward MORRIS, Brett RUMFITT, Sally RUMFITT, Jason SMITH, Clive TUCKER, Maria TUCKER, Linda TURNER, Janice WELLSTEAD

Why not get involved and volunteer? We have been lucky forthe last couple of months as 3 Duke of Edinburgh lads (Tim, Tom & Oliver) have been helping each week, but they only have 1 week left. Maybe thay will continue but I suspect we will need a few more others each week to put the event on. For 17th February we need a few more marshals, but most other positions have been filled-Thank you as I am Run Director. It will be my 100th event and Sally's 25th.

A total of 451 runners took part at Southsea parkrun event #473

Paul Osborne ran another PB, this time a huge 21 secs, Laura Richardson was 10th female, Amanda Simpson ran her fastest here since May 2022 and had her highest Age-Grade, in fact had the 2nd highest of all the finishers.

Katherine Newell volunteered and Louise Griffin and Alex Yorke returned after injuries.

A total of 574 runners took part at Rushmoor parkrun event #401

Course Description

The course starts opposite the Army Rugby Stadium on Queens Avenue, Aldershot near the pedestrian crossing where the tarmac path leads towards the centre of the field. The course heads towards the edge of the sports fields near the Wavell School, then turns left and follows the boundary fence to the edge of the field. Going through a gap in the boundary fence, the course turns left and follows the pavement next to the A325 for around three quarters of a kilometre. Where the slip road off the Alisons Road slip road off the A325 starts, the course turns left and joins the Basingstoke Canal. Just before the canal goes under Queens Avenue, the course turns left again to rejoin the playing fields and then runs straight next to Queens Avenue, turning left just before the start for a second lap. On the second lap, carry straight on without turning left, staying on the right of the path to finish.

Becci Knowles made her debut.

Gordon Scruton and John Bucketsofrain debuted. I don't think this was a record time for a Baffins runner, but with parkrun removing some of the easily accessible records it would take me longer to find out. It may be our 5th fastest, but I'll continue to dig down into the results if it's not too time consuming in future.

I, like many are upset with parkrun's recent hiding of some results and records. It made me reconsider my attitude and relationship to parkrun and writing this review in particular.

Hopefully I'll see some of you at Great Salterns tomorrow. Good luck to those running the Coastal Half Marathons on Saturday, Sunday or BOTH!

Please see our website to buy kit, memberships etc.

BUT please like this post if you think I should still compile it. Thank you.
